Pergolas and covered porches across Greater Philadelphia
Shade, shelter and a little architecture for your deck or patio. Every pergola, gazebo and roof structure is drawn for your home and built by the team that designed it.

Shade, shelter and year-round comfort
The structure that makes a backyard feel finished
A pergola frames a patio and throws dappled shade across the table. A roof structure keeps the rain off so dinner stays outside. Either way, the structure is often what turns an open deck into a place you actually use.
Paul Construction & Awning has been a pergola builder in Greater Philadelphia since 1994, working from our showroom in Skippack. Paul Construction handles design, permitting and construction in-house, so the pergola you approve on paper is the one our crew builds in Doylestown, Newtown, Blue Bell or wherever you call home.
- Hand-drawn designs sized to your deck, patio or garden

What we build
Pergolas, gazebos and roof structures
Three ways to add shade and shelter, each one custom-built for the property it sits on.

Custom pergolas
Traditional wood or a modern vinyl or composite design, customized to your layout. We can add lighting, train vines across the top, or fit retractable canopies for shade you can adjust.
Our signature outdoor rooms
When a roof is not enough, meet Remote Spaces
Remote Spaces, also called Remote Rooms, are a Paul Construction original. They take a covered patio or deck and add motorized or manual retractable screen walls and ductless mini-split heating and cooling, so the space works across more of the year.
If you are weighing a roof structure against a fully usable outdoor room, it is worth a look at Remote Spaces before you decide.

Questions, answered
Frequently asked questions
What materials do you build pergolas from?
We build traditional wood pergolas as well as modern vinyl and composite designs. We help you choose based on the look you want and how much upkeep you are comfortable with.
What is the difference between a pergola and a roof structure?
A pergola has an open top that filters sunlight. A roof structure has a solid roof that protects you from sun, rain and snow, and it can be tied into your home’s architecture.
Can you add a pergola to my existing deck or patio?
Often, yes. We look at your existing deck or patio during the consultation and design the pergola around it.
Do you handle permits?
Yes. Design, permitting and construction are all managed in-house by Paul Construction.
Is your work guaranteed?
Every pergola and roof structure is backed by our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee. Manufacturer warranties apply separately; ask us for the details on your specific model.
